Robocall Transcript from September 29, 2021:

Good evening, families, this is Principal Diane Shorts.

In our continued efforts to be open and transparent in our communication with you regarding COVID-19, I am contacting you tonight to inform you that on September 28, the number of COVID-19 cases within our school have met the Maryland Department of Health’s definition of a schoolwide outbreak.

A schoolwide outbreak is defined as three or more classroom or cohort outbreaks within 14 days or five percent or more of unrelated individuals testing positive for COVID-19 within 14 days.

We know that this news sounds alarming, but I want to assure you that contact tracing has already been completed in partnership with the Worcester County Health Department, and your child has not been identified as a close contact unless you were otherwise notified. So, your child may continue to come to school as normal; however, I want to stress to all of our families the importance of carefully completing the health screener each morning before sending your child to school. This is an essential part of our health and safety protocols, and it helps to keep our school a healthy and safe environment for your child - and all of our students - to learn in.

A letter with this information has gone home with students, but you can view it any time on our website, www.showellelementary.org.

As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate the impact of this pandemic on our school. If you have any questions, please contact our school by calling 410-632-5350.  Have a good evening.

Robocall Transcript from September 22, 2021:

Good evening, families, this is Principal Diane Shorts. I am contacting you tonight to let you know that a single classroom in our school has been closed as a result of a probable case of COVID-19. We have made this decision in consultation with local health officials due to the unique nature of this classroom setting.

I want to thank all of our students and our staff for your diligence in observing our health and safety protocols. Because of your continued dedication to wearing face coverings, observing physical distancing whenever possible, and checking for symptoms, we are able to keep our school building open for in-person learning for the rest of our student population.

We will keep those students and staff directly impacted by this transition updated as we are able to welcome that class back in person. Again, thank you all for your continued partnership as we navigate this pandemic together. Have a good night.
